Cirsotrema ernestoilaoi

Description:

Dimensions range from 18.9 mm - 20.3 mm high and 8.1 mm wide.
Width to height ratio: 0.43:1 ~ 0.4:1

Shell: turreted; solid; small to moderately small. Exterior colour white. About 8 whorls, tabulated and excavated on shoulder; protoconch unknown. Suture obscured by ornamentation. Umbilicate: a pseudoumbilicus created by posterior edge of aperture. Approximately 23 costae on the body whorl. Occasional varix appearing randomly on the shell. Intercostal spaces with microscopic, uneven striae. Base with heavy ridge. Aperture round; peristome continuous, thick. Operculum black, round, paucispiral.


Distribution:

Western Mindanao Sea from Balicasag Island to northern Mindanao, southern Philippine Islands


Habitat:

muddy sand, 240-380m


Etymology:

named for Mr. Ernesto Ilao.

Holotype: ANSP 407854 for Cirsotrema ernestoilaoi Garcia E., 2001 - Locality: off Aliguay Island, northwest of Dipolog, Mindanao, Philippines, collected by bamboo trawler in 240 m, in muddy sand.. [Brown, L. & Neville, B.D., 2015]
