Cylindriscala sibogae

(Schepman, 1909)

Description:

Dimensions range from 11 mm - 11 mm high and 3.5 mm wide.
Width to height ratio: 0.32:1 ~ 0.32:1

Shell: elongately pyramidal; solid; small. Exterior colour whitish. About 10.5 whorls. Suture deep suture, slightly shouldered. Imperforate. Approximately 12 costae on the body whorl. Costae are slightly nodulous where they are intersected by the spiral sculpture. Intercostal spaces with strong spiral ridges and a few spiral striae forming nodules where they cross the costae. Interstices with approximately 3 spiral striae per whorl. Base with a few very faint spirals and a stronger basal cord. Columella margin thickened below, reflected over the umbilical region. Aperture oval, slightly angular above.

Etymology:

[latin] = from Siboga, in reference to the Dutch scientific voyage aboard the vessel HMS Siboga which collected the specimen


Type Material:

Holotype: ZMA: Moll 3.09.76 for Cylindriscala sibogae (Schepman, 1909) - Type Locality: 'Station 159, Halmahera Sea, 00o 59.1'S, 129o 48.8'E, 411 m, coarse sand.' The coordinates given are off the western tip of Irian Jaya, in Indonesia.. [Brown, L. & Neville, B.D., 2015]
