Cylindriscala aurantia
Bouchet & Warén, 1986
Description:
Dimensions range from 19.2 mm - 20 mm high and 6 mm wide.
Width to height ratio: 0.31:1 ~ 0.3:1
Shell: turriculate; solid; small. Exterior colour orange brown, except the apex which is whitish.. About 12 whorls, rounded convex; protoconch missing in holotype. Suture impressed. Imperforate. Approximately 17 - 18 costae on the body whorl. Costae are strong and non-lamellar. Intercostal spaces sculptured with indistinct, poorly defined spiral grooves. Interstices with approximately 12 - 13 spiral striae per whorl. Base disc sculptured only with incremental lines. Aperture rather quadrangular; inner lip with a distinct callus on parietal wall.
C. aurantia resembles C. tortilis Watson, 1883 from the bathyal zone of the West Indies, but it has a larger apical angle and fewer axial ribs. In the NE Atlantic, C. aurantia resembles C. mirifica, C. jeffreysi and C. thalassae, which all have in common distinct axial microsculpture. From this group C. aurantia is distinguished by its very indistinct spiral sculpture and fewer, more spaced axial ribs. [Bouchet & Waren, 1986]
