Description:
Dimensions range from 18.4 mm - 18.5 mm high and 7.2 mm wide.
Width to height ratio: 0.39:1 ~ 0.39:1
Shell: turreted; solid; small. Exterior colour white. About 11 whorls. Imperforate. Approximately 16 costae on the body whorl. Costae are erect, formed by a series of packed, frilled lamellae. Costae peaked, making a concave shoulder. Intercostal spaces shiny, almost smooth, showing a few, low, inconspicuous spiral cords. Base with basal ridge positioned close to umbilical area. Aperture subcircular, almost surrounded by a heavy labral costa. Operculum unknown.
C. excelsum can be differentiated from Cirsotrema rugosum (Kuroda & Ito, 1961) by its much smaller size; more intricate structure of axial costae; almost smooth interspaces; and near-umbilical position of basal ridge [Garcia, 2003].
