How to navigate the site
The site can be navigated in 2 ways:
- by habitat
- by family
Click on the habitat menu on the top right of the window and select a habitat.
A page will open showing molluscan families that inhabit the environment.
Select the family you want to view.
Click on the family menu on the top right of the window and select a habitat.
A page will open showing molluscan families.
Select the family you want to view or use the search box.
Using one of the methods above click on the family you want view.
A page will open showing featured species within the family.
Select the species you want to view.
Each species page contains the following information:
map showing location of specimens
use your mouse to zoom in and out
a description of the shell
with a reference to the source text
refer to the bibliography page for further details
Shell is broadly ovate with moderately high spire.
The body whorl is covered with many fine striae, five spiral rows of pointed nodules and a thick, imbricate fasciole.
The aperture is lirate.
The colour of the shell is creamy-white, pale rose, or orange with darker red-purple nodules.
While the parietal wall, columella and interior is yellow to dark orange with darker orange-red lirae.
