Epitonium brachyspeira

Description:

Dimensions range from 2.5 mm high.


Shell: broadly pyramidal; microscopic. Exterior colour white. About 8 whorls; protoconch with ~4 whorls worn in holotype; teleoconch with ~4 whorls convex. Suture simple, moderately shallow. Approximately 21 - 24 costae on the body whorl. Costae are prosocline, irregular width, barely arcuate, an occasional one variciform. Costae not coronate. Intercostal spaces with thin, close spiral lirae,weak below suture but strong on base of body whorl. Interstices with approximately 18 spiral striae per whorl. Fasciole strong, fused along the columella. Aperture large, more or less ovate; peristome duplex, thick, thinner across the parietal area.

Etymology:

[greek] from brachys = short + speira = a spire
