Boreoscala juanina

Description:

Dimensions range from 5.4 mm - 5.4 mm high and 2.5 mm wide.
Width to height ratio: 0.46:1 ~ 0.46:1

Shell: turrite; rather fragile; minute. Exterior colour milky-white. About 5 whorls, very convex ; protoconch missing in holotype; teleoconch final whorl missing in holotype. Approximately 16 costae on the body whorl. Costae are thin erect, aculeate above, convex on their anterior side, channel-shaped posteriorly, and with traces of transverse striae. Intercostal spaces with fine spiral cords. Aperture circular, lip continuous.

30-40 m


Etymology:

juanina = a Latinised adjectival form meaning "from Juan" or "of Juan.", Specifically, it refers to Juan Fernández Island, the type locality. The suffix -ina in Latin often denotes "belonging to" or "originating from."
