Estuarine habitats.
Estuarine habitats occur where fresh water from creeks and rivers join with seawater.
Moreton Bay has large areas of estaurine habitat where the Brisbane, Pine, Caboolture, Logan, Albert and Pimpama rivers empty into the bay.
These environments are often defined by having silty mud and sand, brackish water and are frequently bordered by mangroves or salt marshes. Estuarine habitats are important nursery areas for fish and other marine life.
